Write or type your full home address at the top of the letter, justified to the left.
Write your street address on the first line, and your city,
state and ZIP code on the second line.

Write the Date (month, day, year)

Employer Contact Information (if you have it)
Name, Title
Company
Address

Salutation:

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name: (Employer or Hiring Manager)

Paragraph 1 – Introduction:

The first paragraph of your letter should include information on why you are writing and how you found the job posting. E.g. I wish to apply for the role of (Physical Education Teacher job position), currently being advertised on Jobsxx.com. Please find enclosed my resume for your consideration.

Paragraph 2 and 3 – Description:

Here is your chance to tell why you are interested in the employer or type of work the employer does (Simply stating that you are interested does not tell why, and can sound like a form letter). Show that you know enough about the employer or position to relate your background to the employer or position. Write about specific qualifications which make you a good fit for the employer’s needs. (Focus on what you can do for the employer, not what the employer can do for you.) This is an opportunity to explain in more detail relevant items in your resume. Refer to the fact that your resume is enclosed.

Paragraph 4 – Closing:

Discuss the next steps. If you are going to follow up in one to two weeks, mention a specific date. If you would prefer to leave the ball in their court, say that you look forward to discussing your qualifications further. Also provide your email address and phone number. Don’t forget to thank them for their time.

Yours sincerely,
Signature
Enclosure
